Fishing
The Brazos River lends itself to fly-fishing and rod-and-reel fishing. The generally mild temperatures along parts of the river make year-round fishing possible, and public access points make getting to the river easy. Bass, including smallmouth, largemouth, striped, spotted and white, are common in the river. Channel, flathead and blue catfish are the other major game fish found in the Brazos. The river also provides habitat for drum and gar. At the time of publication, the 1999 record for the largest bass caught in the river was 53 pounds. The state stocks a limited number of rainbow trout and bass annually. North Texas Catfish Guide Service (txcatfishguide.com), southwest of Fort Worth, specializes in blue, channel and flathead catfish. Guide Chad Ferguson provides the bait and tackle for fishing trips aboard his custom-rigged catfish boat launched from Tin Top, Texas.
